St. Vincent School's Graduation 2017 (Bechem)

Speech Delivered By Mr. Peprah (VOSA President) On 10th June 2017

Mr. Chairman, Nananom, Hon. District Chief Executive, Most Rev Peter Atuahene, Honourable headmistress, Dignified members of staff, Distinguished PTA Chairman, Parents, Old students, Invited Guests, All Protocol Observed.
I deem it a great honour to be offered this opportunity to address this august assembly.
To begin with I will like us to observe a minute of silence for our befallen old students.
Fosu Dufie
Agyemang Amaniampong Prempeh Angela
May their souls rest in peace.
I will like to thank Rev Fr. Vincent Glenon for setting up this nice and helpful Institution. I will also like to thank past and current teachers, parents and old students for helping in keeping this school alive.
St Vincent school shall reign forever. This statement is picked from our school’s anthem. As old students of this noble institution, we can’t be anywhere on this day than to join hands with these newly inaugurated VOSA members and continuing students to celebrate this special day.
The vision of VOSA is to create a cross linkage between old students of St Vincent. To help in shaping and developing its members and also help develop St. Vincent school.
The mission of VOSA is to get all old students under one umbrella to work as a team.
It is said that charity begins at home and this proves how important it is to begin giving back to society when we are toddlers and paupers but not to wait till we become rich. It is said that small deeds done is far better than huge deeds planned.
Why is there a need to form this association? VOSA is not just for helping the school but more importantly helping its members. How can this association help its members? Cross linkages are formed as a result of this association. Ideas are shared, behaviours shaped, helping hands being made available and so many incentives. Our father (Vincent Glenon) is known of giving back to society and we shouldn’t be in the position to depart from this good way.
As an association, not everything is moving smoothly and we will like to make them known:
Getting the old students on board, most of the old students are not in this region and some are also outside the country. Majority are unknown. This is due to the fact that the association is still young. We are doing everything possible to get everyone on board.  Most people appreciate what we are doing. Let me take this time out and ask. Mom, Dad, is that your child who is an old student contributing to the associations doings? Have you taken the pain to ask your Brother, sister, in law whether or not they are in the team?
As the adage goes, ‘’Together we stand, apart we fall’’ proves that, one person, few people, a batch or some few batches cannot do all the work. We hope that from now forward, we won’t sit back and appreciate but join hands to making this association a vibrant one.
Projectcs:
Branding of the school bus, we presented 10 computers, Provision of white Formica board in the JHS 3 Classroom. All these were done last year.
This year: Repair of broken wall at the primary, furnishing the library with books, Provision of special manual pencil sharpening machine, 1 meter ruler. 4 formica boards.
Two boards and a notice board is done in memory of our Sister Agyemang Prempeh Angela. May her innocent soul rest in peace.
One Graph Board presented by the current inaugurated old students in the name of the association. We will like to welcome them and urge them to continue with what they have started.
There is a new building under construction, it is another project taken by an old student in the name of the association.
We will like to commend the teachers for good work done, but as our discipline walls are gradually collapsing not to talk about academic excellence, we will urge them on what they often wrote on our report cards and I quote, ‘more room for improvement’ we refer them to it. Teachers, Parents, Old students and the Church I say more room for improvement in your good works.
Moreover, we will urge the continuing students and current graduates to mimic from some past students who have attain good academic laurels and are of high positions in the society. We have medical doctors, lawyers, Rev Fathers, Rev Sisters, Bank Managers, Engineers, Teachers, etc. we urge you to mentor them.
Moreover, to the graduates, welcome into VOSA, Vosa is built with you guys and for you guys. As the adage goes, ‘ to whom much is given, much is expected goes to prove that, they shouldn’t exempt themselves from VOSA activities which include; willing to aid others in times of need, helping in the upbringing of others and giving back to society. Make the schools motto your best quote, that’s learning with discipline for sure brings success.
Furthermore, it is said that if you want to go fast, go alone but if you want to go far then go with a team. We are pleading with all and sundry to spread the news to the unknown. We need everyone on board. Parents help us help your children.
Long live VOSA, long live ST Vincent School. Long live Ghana

Thank you.

 Speech Delivered By Lilian (Student)

On 10th June 2017

Good morning, Madam Chairperson, My Lord Bishop, Chairman of Board of Governance, Headmistress, Hon. District Chief Executive, Members of staff, Members of VOSA, Fellow Students and Graduands, Ladies and Gentlemen.
I feel exceedingly honoured and excited to be called upon to address this important and large gathering. I happily welcome you all.
Madam Chairperson, I stand here to address this important gathering on the success and failures of St Vincent School in the 2016/2017 academic year. I am therefore grateful to the organizers for giving me this opportunity.
Madam Chairperson, I will talk on how we performed in academics, sports, culture, discipline and sanitation. In reference to discipline, we creditably performed well and marvelously. This happened because we were closely monitored by our teachers, headmistress and prefects. They punished us when we disobeyed the rules and regulations of the school.
Madam Chairperson, Children psychology states that children fear bodily pains and since we were punished when we disobeyed the ethics of the school, we maintained our sense of humour, I hope this continues in order to ensure discipline in the next generation as well.
Madam Chairperson, we also performed magnificently in academics. Our former graduands were very successful in their final examination. We all know that two of them were lucky to receive the President’s award and were granted scholarship. Some other students also had aggregates 6, 7 and in what I’ve heard, their least grade was 18 which might have been the best grade of other school. They were able to accomplish their goals because they were serious and discipline. The obeyed the rules of the school and did what was asked from them. Our teachers were very strict with them in their studies. Our competent, reliable and generous headmistress helped students in any way she could. I must admit that she is a woman of valour and she cares for her students although some students might not notice because they distinct themselves from the headmistress. She indeed deserve her position.
Our teachers are the ones who will not leave any stone unturned to see us succeed. They also taught us what to do and helped us to be truthful. They are very experienced and teach us so many things. They love us very much and I thank God for their lives. I know that they expect us to perform creditably like what our former graduands did and I hope we would fulfill their intentions.
Madam Chairperson, our academics would improve if healthy competitions are organized between us and other schools. Quizzes and Debates are barely organized and also award giving is barely heard of in our school. Healthy competitions must be organized in the school because they help students to take fear out of their heart and press towards the mark. Students should instill courage in their hearts rather than fear.
Madam Chairperson, we also performed magnificently in cultural activities. Culture refers to a way of life of a particular group of people. Due to the fact that, students and teachers shared the same ideas and they understood themselves. Our loving teachers taught us how to dance, some taught us how to drum, sing with melodious voices and recite poems. All these happened because we wanted to achieve a common goal. Co – operation is very important in every organization of institution because it helps us to ask for help in times of need.
Eminent Chairperson, we all know that as good things happen, even bad things find their way to proceed. Even liver secrets bile. St Vincent school failed in sports. This academic year, students and trainers did not start their practice early and they also needed a skilled teacher to train them which they lacked and their sports prefects were not ready to sacrifice their time to the students. Our school will only become successful in sports if they have skilled and capable trainers to train them. The importance of involving oneself in sports must be taught to students, either by running, playing soccer, basketball, net ball, table tennis and a whole lot of other things.
Immaculate Chairperson, our school somehow failed in sanitation, in reference to my observation, our teachers did their best to tell students not to litter on the compound, but since the dust bins we had in this school were not sufficient, some students litter in their classrooms and on the compound. Our teachers must continually teach students on the importance of keeping the environment clean and give award to the most neat and modest student every academic year. I hope dustbins are provided in the school. Children must be encouraged to do research in the facility provided for them because learning with discipline will only bring success if students have a sound mind and hygienic environment. I believe our competent headmistress will make sure all these things happen.
Madam Chairperson, Capable headmistress and Staff, District Chief Executive, Parents, Fellow Students and Graduands, Ladies and Gentlemen. I express my gratitude to each one of you or your attendance and cooperation which has made this occasion splendid. I fervently hope these contributions would be heeded to.

Thank You.
